Young Players Shine in CLT20 2013

The recently concluded Champions League T20 tournament witnessed some exciting cricket and in the end it was the Mumbai Indians who were crowned the new champions. Apart from Mumbai the Rajasthan Royals also put up a good show as they maintained an unbeaten run at home on their way to the final. The credit for Rajasthan's success must go to skipper Rahul Dravid who handled the side really well even when the going got a bit tough. Infact the final turned out to be a memorable affair not only for the cricket which was to be played but also due to the fact that it turned out to be a farewell match for the two legends of Indian cricket, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. Away from the spotlight though there were a few youngsters who were willing to make the final an occasion to remember as they took a step closer in realising their dream to play for the country.
The Rajasthan Royals had their own heroes but there were two young stars who stood out for whatever they achieved during the course of this tournament. With a place in the Indian team at stake both Ajinkya Rahane and young Sanju Samson delivered just when it mattered the most. Although in Samson's case, it might be a bit too early to speculate about his chances of making it to the Indian team at present but his impressive performances in the IPL earlier this year and now in the Champions League are bound to make an impact on the selectors in the not too distant future. As for Rahane his impressive display could earn him a place in the Indian team for the upcoming series against Australia and the West Indies. Rahane who has already represented India in ODI and T20 cricket now has a real chance of making a comeback to the national side in the days to come.
Apart from the wonderful display from these two young players this year's CLt20 also saw some breathtaking performances from Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma. This young cricketer has the temperament and the class to achieve great results for Indian cricket in the near future. His skills are something that the Indian selectors must seriously consider as they pick the Test squad in the coming months. This year's CLT20 also provided a chance to some of the foreign players to get acclimatized to Indian conditions. With the Series against Australia just around the corner the CLT20 provided a chance to some of the Aussies to know the Indian conditions better. Similarly the West Indians also learnt valuable lessons ahead of this winter's tour of India.
So all in all the CLT202013 provided a glimpse of the young talent that lies in store for the future and it also gave some of the young players an opportunity to make a comeback if possible as we move forward into a new season of International cricket.
