Oh Dhoni, My Captain


He is the David Beckham of Indian cricket. His smooth moves, powerful batting, his copious amount of endorsement deals and the variety of hairstyles have often drawn parallels with the worldwide famous football player. He is the captain of the Indian cricket team. He is India's rock; he is the fixer-upper, problem solver, decision maker and the team maker. Without him Indian cricket, in all probability, would be lost like a flock of sheep without their shepherd. He is the phenom known as Mahendra Singh Dhoni or lovingly abbreviated as M S Dhoni. You are not a true Indian if you do not know who he is, but if you do, you would only be happy to get to know him better. Here are few interesting and fun facts about our cricket team fearless leader.
• Dhoni was born in Ranchi on July 7, 1981
• He has two siblings- a brother and a sister.
• He initially had flauted long colour tinted hair but cut it short later, imitating his favorite Bollywood actor John Abraham.
• He has a passion for motor bikes and has an impressive collection of bikes.
• Dhoni married his wife Sakshi on July 04, 2010. They had studied together as kids in the same school and were family friends.
• He made his Ranji Trophy debut during the 1999-2000 season, at the age of eighteen.
• He was first spotted by TRDO PC Podar when he saw Dhoni play for Jharkhand in 2003. He was quick to alert the National Cricket Academy of such a raw talent.
• His breakthrough moment came on 31 October 2005 when Dhoni scored 183 runs off just 145 balls against Sri Lanka in One Day International match. He became the only batsman to score such high runs in the second innings.
• It was under Dhoni captaincy that Indian cricket team was able to defeat Australia by 320 runs.
• He holds the record for the maximum number of catches by an Indian player.
• It was again under his captaincy that India reached the number 1 ranking in Test cricket for the first time in history.
• Dhoni has the best win to loss ration when compared with the other capatins of India. Also he holds the record for the longest undefeated streak in Tests, with eleven continuous tests to his credit.
• He currently endorses around 20 different brands, one less than Bollywood superstar- Shah Rukh Khan.
