Can the Seasoned Pros Stage a Comeback?

In the recent past, the Indian cricket team has lost some of its star players either due to retirement or due to injuries or poor form which had forced the selectors to drop them from the side. While star performers like Dravid and Laxman announced their retirements from Test cricket, others like Sehwag and Gambhir were unfortunately dropped from the national side due to their poor form. Although after suffering so many blows, the Indian team still is in top form and the transition from experience to youth has been quite smooth and in a short space of time. While a legend called Sachin Tendulkar is still around, the others have all gone and it is now up to the youngsters to take over the responsibility on their shoulders in order to take Indian cricket forward. But in the midst of this transition there is one famous opening duo which is still fighting it out to regain their place in the Indian team.
Indeed, the journey hasn't been easy for Gambhir and Sehwag and in the past few months they have been struggling it out to regain their lost prestige and a place in the Indian team. While youngsters like Vijay and Dhawan have grabbed their opportunities with both hands the experienced duo have been left to struggle in this period of the change of guard. But even in this hour of crisis, both of them are confident about staging a comeback into the Indian team.
The upcoming domestic season promises to be a real test for both of them and will hopefully decide their fate regarding their comeback plans in the next few months.A lot of hard work and courage will be required from these Delhi teammates who are not getting any younger with each passing day. What they have, however, on their side is experience which they can put to good use in the coming days.
So, with the domestic season about to begin all eyes will be on Sehwag and Gambhir as they make a desperate attempt to make their way back into the Indian team. With so much of experience under their belt their chances cannot be ruled out and with plenty of injury worries the coming months might well see the return of either of them in the national squad. There was once a time when the pair of Viru and Gauti was considered as one of the most reliable opening combinations in the world of Test cricket but things have gone wrong for these two in the past few months and the home series against England last year was their last appearance in India colours. They have been dropped since then and are now fighting to regain their lost place.
So, as they fight it out for a place in the team let's hope that their dreams will come true in the next few months and hopefully they will be back in the Indian team in the coming days. With loads of runs under their belt they will surely be an asset to Team India in its quest for glory at home and abroad in the coming months.
