VIRAT KOHLI - A Force to Reckon With

The year 2012 heralded in a lot of promises for Virat Kohli who has the fortune of having them fulfilled as the months rolled by. For the young man, who stood back, belted out 90 runs and chased down the Ranji trophy, all while fighting back the tears that threatened to gush out every time he thought about his father's demise, nothing is more than deserving.
Virat Kohli's statistics have taken on a fuller form since, saturated with impressive run rates, innings, batting/bowling averages and awards. A far as cricket player profiles go, Virat Kohli's profile became legendary in a hurry. All of 24, he has many bright feathers on his cricketer's hat. He is the very first Indian to score more than a century on a world cup debut. He is also slated as the fastest Indian to score a staggering 1000 runs in One Day International cricket. The accolades don't stop there. He captained the Indian team that won the 2008 U/19 Cricket World Cup held in Malaysia. His latest achievement is the 'International Cricket Council One Day International Player of the Year Award' that he won in 2012.
What sets Kohli apart from your everyday average cricketer you ask? I say it's a combination of his enthusiastic commitment and never-say-die attitude. Even while facing the 'terminator'- Lasith Malinga, the battle field where many a cricketer's aspirations come to be crushed, he stood his ground and braved whatever Malinga threw his way. That day Virat Kohli crushed a part of Sri Lanka's spirit, a significant one at that. If statistics are to be believed, then we are assured time and again that Kohli is on a journey to be the complete cricketer and that he will not rest till he has attained that profile.
The beginning of the year saw him win a century at Adelaide but something has got the player down since. It is not as much that he isn't up to his regular run rate as it is his exit. In Mumbai, his dismissals left the fans stunned into silence while the one in Ahmedabad had Kohli himself looking dejected and second guessing his statistics. May be the absence of stalwarts like Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman has left Kohli's profile dwindling, with a sense of insignificance. Maybe he needs to stop over thinking the situation and just do as the moment demands, as India's cricketing future greatly requires the mind set of someone like Virat Kohli.
